About Gone to the Dogs

Hi, I’m Theresa!

I became a dog trainer because of my crazy, wonderful yellow Lab, Milo. When Milo came in to my life I realized that even though I had dogs all my life, I never trained one. I decided to enroll us in a six week basic training course. I soon realized that this training was just scratching the surface.

The training center was looking for interns and I applied and was blessed to be accepted. After interning for a few years, I knew I loved dog training and became a certified professional trainer through the Karen Pryor Academy.

Sixteen years ago I took in a stray dog (Milo) and wanted to give her the best possible life. However, it has been Milo that has completely changed my life and all for the better.

Summary:

In August 2015, I graduated from the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Dog Trainer Professional program, I am a KPA Certified Training Partner (CTP).

My training center is located at 6 Bourbon Street in Peabody, behind In the Zone, just off of Lowell street next to Lucky Dogs Daycare. I offer group classes as well as private sessions.

I’m based on the North Shore of Massachusetts and offer private training sessions in your home at your convenience. During the training sessions I aim to increase your understanding of gentle, effective clicker training.

Theresa is an excellent trainer. We needed a major reset with our 10 month old lab, Tess, and we found the right person in Theresa. She kept us informed with Tess’ progress, methodically breaking down her challenges, successes and daily training sessions. Before we picked her up, Theresa provided us with short, detailed notes along with actual videos of Tess learning each of the important commands: sit, down, recall, leave it and stay. We have the tools now. I feel like we have our dog back. High recommend!

We love Theresa! She was so prompt in responding to us when we first got Obi, our 7 month rescue puppy. We were so worried, as new dog owners, but after our first at-home visit with Theresa, we were immediately put at ease. She's worked with him the past few months, and he's learned so much - we LOVE training and working on it at home. As soon as we get into the parking lot, Obi's so excited to get into class and see all of his friends. Theresa is so calm, compassionate and understanding - your dog will love her. We cannot recommend Theresa enough!

I welcomed two new puppies, and brothers, in February 2021. Maverick and Major came from a litter of ten, and they are a mix of German Shepherd, Husky, Yellow Lab, and Border Collie. I knew my survival depended on getting them trained!! My veterinarian referred me to Theresa at Gone to the Dogs Training, and it was well worth the ten lessons package. Theresa is very personable and you can tell right away how much she loves dogs and understands the importance of them being well-trained. Even when Theresa is socializing with the owners, she still remains focused on each dog's individual training and keeps the owners on task. People called me crazy for getting two puppies at once, but Theresa's training has definitely made my life easier and happier with Maverick and Major. Thanks Theresa!Matt WilkinsLynn, MA
